INTRODUCTION TO STAMP COLLECTING FOR THE
YOUNG AND YOUNG IN HEART
Stamp Collection is a hobby you can enjoy
by yourself or in a group. You can spend very little money putting together a fine
collection of material. You can collect single stamps, sheets, stamps on envelopes,
stamped envelopes, meters on envelopes You can do this and much more.
The
Scranton Stamp Club can be a valuable resource in helping you start your own collection.
Members are willing to work with you one-on-one or as a group. The club also has
a vast amount of good used stamps from the United States and from foreign countries.
This is a way of getting started with very little money.
Many of us started saving stamps on the envelopes we or our parents received
in the mail. Some may not look like stamps and may not even have an amount on the-but
they are stamps. Sometimes one or more stamps will catch your interest and they can
be torn off, soaked off paper and saved in a stock book. We can teach how to remove
and save and tell you, and even provide a stock book.
One of the fastest-growing
areas is called topical, collecting stamps by subjects. Topics could include, but
not limited to, trains, flowers, boats, aircraft, musical instruments, presidents.
The list goes on and on. Not only on stamps of the United States but on stamps of
the many foreign countries.
The fun of stamp collecting comes from learning of people, place, and things
you can only imagine. It also comes from meeting and making friends with a like interest.
It can come from attending meetings to learn about the world of stamps and what is
meant by perforations, watermarks, coils and so forth.
Stamps have a place
in history, geography, politics and areas that can tie-in closely with school or
with work.
Wherever you are there is a stamp club nearby to help you get into
STAMPS.
